FAQ

HOW DO I JOIN COLORADO CLUB TENNIS?

First of all, we accept all skill levels. No one is cut from the tryouts we hold each semester. However, in order to join the team, we recommend coming to our interest meeting at the beginning of the fall semester to find out what we're all about! You can find the date and location of the interest meeting either on this FAQ page or on Facebook/Instagram. For updated information on club tennis practices and events, we encourage you to join our Facebook Page (CU Boulder Club Tennis) or email cuclubtennis@colorado.edu for any further questions.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED TO MAKE THE TEAM?

There is no exact skill level required to make the team. However, the competitive team is comprised mostly of players who have been playing for several years on their high school varsity teams and in USTA tournaments. The players on the non-competitive team are comprised of players who either played high school tennis or are at the recreational level. Tryouts at the beginning of each semester determine who qualifies for the competitive team. On average we take 20 guys and 20 girls for the competitive team. Lastly, we highly encourage all players who do not make the competitive team, sign-up to be a non-competitive team member because this will give you access to a wide range of people you can hit with and all of our club events, fundraisers, philanthropies, and parties!

WHEN AND WHERE ARE PRACTICES HELD?

For the Fall/Spring season practices are held M-F at CU South Tennis Complex. During the Winter season practices are held M-W at RMTC in the bubble from 9-11 pm at night. These practices are not mandatory; however, we encourage members to attend when they can. Practices are a great way to catch up with friends, meet new people, play your favorite sport, and de-stress.

HOW DO I GET TO CU SOUTH TENNIS COMPLEX?

There are many options to get to the courts –  you can either drive (if you have a car), ride your bike, take the bus, or ask someone else for a ride.

Directions:
(1) From Boulder - head toward Denver on Route 36 and exit onto Table Mesa Drive.

(2) Proceed by going straight through the exit ramp light and onto a road called S Loop Drive.

(3) Travel down the road and turn right at the fork in the road, turning right again soon after at the green gate.

(4) Follow the gravel road until you see the tennis courts to your left and parking subsequently after.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A COMPETITIVE AND NON-COMPETITIVE MEMBER?

competitive member is typically someone who has been playing tennis for several years on their high school varsity teams and in USTA tournaments. These members travel to tournaments in Colorado and compete against other club teams in our USTA section. In addition, all competitive members have the opportunity to travel to out of state tournaments.

non-competitive member is typically someone who either played on their high school team or are at the recreational/intramural level. Tryouts at the beginning of each semester determine who qualifies for the competitive and non-competitive teams. We highly encourage all players who do not make the competitive team, sign-up to be a non-competitive team member because this will give you access to a wide range of people you can hit with and all of our club events, fundraisers, philanthropies, and parties!

WHAT ARE THE DUES OR NECESSARY PAYMENTS TO BE A PART OF CU CLUB TENNIS?

As explained in the above question, we have two membership options for members: competitive and non-competitive.

  • Competitive Dues: $250/semester or $500/year

    • Includes balls, court space, tournament fees, travel costs, club t-shirt, apparel, socials, and an opportunity to meet people of similar interests and skill level.

  • Non-Competitive Dues: $100/semester or $200/year

    • Includes balls, court space, club t-shirt, socials, and the opportunity to meet people of similar interests and skill level.

HOW MUCH OF A TIME COMMITMENT IS CLUB TENNIS?

Practices are held weekly, and we travel to tournaments monthly. All practices and tournaments are NOT MANDATORY, so it is often easily balanced with school or other extracurricular activities.

Also, tournaments and scrimmages with other schools are almost exclusively on weekends so they do not interfere with weekly class schedules.
