TOURNAMENTS

We play in tournaments year-round. Each semester we travel to at least 2-3 tournaments in-state and out-of-state. Some of the tournaments we go to include our Annual Buffalo Classic, Mountain Lion Classic, Badger Classic, Wildcat Winter Classic, Toledo Clay Classic, USTA TOC Fall Invitational, Sectionals, and the National Championships. Check out the yearly season schedules tab under tournaments for tournament dates and locations.

Tournaments Within Colorado

Tournaments are held throughout different cities in Colorado including Colorado Springs, Greeley, Boulder, Denver, and Fort Collins. We organize rides from members there and back. If the city is close, we will leave Saturday morning and come back Saturday night. If the city is farther away (like Colorado Springs), we will leave Friday after classes, sleep at a hotel, and come back Saturday after the tournament.

Club Tennis Tournament Format

Every tournament is organized into specific pools. There are 4 teams in every pool. The team that places first within their pool is then placed into a Gold compass draw bracket. The team that places second in their pool is put into a Silver Bracket. The team that places third in their pool is placed into the Bronze Bracket. And the last-place team in their pool is placed into the bottom bracket. The way that the lineup for matches is set can be illustrated below

  • Men's Doubles (1 pair)

  • Women's Doubles (1 pair)

  • Men's Singles (1 position)

  • Women's Singles (1 position)

  • Mixed Doubles (1 pair)

Club Tennis Match Scoring

Tournaments are played with World Team Tennis Scoring. The rules are listed below:

  • One set, change sides every 4 games, sudden death tiebreak to 5-all (switch serves every 2 points and the last server serves 3 points, win by 1 point and change sides every 4 points)

  • We are allowed to sub players out (a player can play a maximum of two sets)

  • Tiebreak to 7 if teams are tied, win by 1 point

  • Overtime: If you win mixed doubles (the last match played) then you keep playing even if you’re down in games. You play until you either catch up to the other team or lose a game.

  • Teams with the most total games at the end of all sets win!

Out of State Tournament Opportunities

In the Fall, we travel to club team invitationals in states like Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and North Carolina. In the Spring, we travel to club team invitationals in states like Arizona, California, Utah, and Florida for the National Championships in Orlando. â€‹

IMPORTANT

You will not be allowed to play in any tournaments until you pay your dues.

  • DO NOT sign up for a tournament unless you know for sure you can play. We have had players back out or not show up before and that hurts your team during the tournaments.
